Finding Your Dream Wedding Hair Style

Opening Pinterest to look for wedding hairstyles can be like opening Pandora’s Box. Googling “dream wedding hair style” can present so many options that you may experience choice paralysis. Even I deal with it from time to time…it’s tough. The internet has given us access to a plethora of ideas, some we may not have even considered. That can be a good thing, and broaden our scope. It can also be a double edged sword that overloads you with never ending possibilities. Which leads you back to the main task at hand: finding your dream wedding hair style. What is a more realistic way to find the perfect hairstyle for you? Let’s explore!

Think of how you wear your hair on a daily basis.

If your go to hairstyle everyday of the week is in a ponytail or a messy bun, maybe you can consider wearing a more polished ponytail or bun on your wedding day. If you wear your hair down and straight all of the time, then a dream wedding hair look for you could be loose waves or curls. Adding bridal hair accessories help these looks to feel more bridal so you don’t have to worry about looking too plain or non bridal. The goal for most brides is to look and feel like themselves, just a bit more jazzy!

Go with what’s comfortable for you.

If you know that wearing hair pins is going to irritate your scalp or wearing your hair pulled back gives you a headache, then don’t do it! You don’t have to go for an updo because it’s “more bridal”. Any hairstyle that you choose can become bridal based on what you do to enhance your overall look. A jeweled headband can be what makes your look come together for your wedding or elopement. In addition, if wearing your hair down or face framing pieces get on your nerves, pull it back! You can still achieve a romantic wedding hairstyle without pieces being left out in the front. You want and need to be comfortable, head to toe, for the entirety of your special day. Think about it: if your hair in your face is annoying you within 30 minutes of having it done, how do you think you will feel several hours later?

Consider your wedding or elopement theme or vibe.

Maybe you are having a vintage wedding or elopement and want your hair to reflect that time period. Or your goal is to have a modern, clean, minimalist wedding. How can that translate to your hairstyle? When you search for your dream wedding hair, include these words in your search criteria to help narrow down the results. If you do not have a theme, what is the vibe you are going for? Do you want your guests and yourself to feel very laid back and chill during the event? Perhaps you want things to feel very elegant, fancy and formal. Think about what your desired outcome is for your special day and look for that. Example: elegant, formal, bridal hair or casual, laid back bridal hairstyles.

Step outside the box.

Do something different if styling your hair in different hairstyles doesn’t bother you physically. You may wear your hair down the majority of the time, but for this special occasion, consider pulling it up. If you wear your hair in a messy bun 99% of the time but your fiancé loves when you wear your hair down, try out hairstyles that are down to surprise your future spouse on the wedding day.

Evaluate the neckline and details of your dress/outfit.

Dresses or outfits with dramatic or open, low backs pair well with updos to show off the back of the dress. These dresses also pair well with your hair down when wanting to look and feel a bit more modest. Intricate beading and rhinestones on the bodice are gorgeous and pair well with updos to showcase these details and prevents your hair from getting caught in the beading or jewels. Sweetheart necklines pair well with both down and up hairstyles, depending on your comfort and modesty level.

Contemplate the time of year.

You are not restricted to a certain hairstyle just because it’s hot or cold outside. You can wear an updo in the dead of winter or glam waves in the heat of the summer. When making your decision, will you be outside for a winter celebration or pictures? Is warmth an important factor for you? Then having your hair down or half up, half down is probably a more ideal hairstyle for you. During the summer, are you a bride who sweats a lot? No worries! Look at hairstyles that will keep your hair up off of your neck and keep you cool throughout the day.

Hopefully this has given you some clarity in what to look for to find your dream wedding hair style. Your “perfect for you” bridal hairstyle is out there! Try not to get overwhelmed with choices. When you begin your search and find that you are seeing too many options, take a step back and breathe. Do something fun to take your mind off of it and then come back when you are more at ease.
